“When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this: you haven’t.”
Thomas Edison
Some days are like that. You’re frustrated at work, relationships aren’t smooth, there’s a nagging feeling that things are not ok. The world seems uncertain. We’ve all been there, and sometimes it’s more than a day. The obvious answer seems to be to blame: others, work, circumstances, the news, the economy. Blame is one of the “upper limit problems” (ULP’s) coined by Gay Hendricks in his book “The Big Leap” for blame. ULP’s are what gets in our way when we make ourselves a victim, ways we give away our power, ways we sabotage ourselves and therefore prevent growth, reaching our upper limits and moving ahead. Rather than blame (ULP) try the following to get unstuck:
Do something physical: run, walk, go to yoga. Shift the energy.
Turn blame into problem-solving: this is crucial. Write down one step, one small thing you can do to move forward.
Talk: Chat it out with someone you trust, not necessarily to solve it, but to get it out there.
Be kind: to yourself, of course. Breathe and realize that everything changes. Everything.
Call it a day: Have a nice warm bath, curl up, read or watch tv, and sleep.
There is never a circumstance that you cannot accept, change or leave. Just don’t use it as an excuse for giving up.
Keep going!
