Life goes on.. are you going too?

As I sent my 15 year old son off to glider pilot camp last week I had two important realizations: this moment will never come again and there is nothing to be afraid of.

It seems as if most of our moments are clouded by thoughts such as ‘what’s next’, ‘what will it be like’, ‘what should we do now’… questions about the future, even if it’s just about tonight or tomorrow or next year but rarely rest in this very moment. I happened to notice this as it was a particularly special moment I did not want to forget, and I wanted to take in the wholeness of this young man that had grown to pursue his passion ferociously, and will probably continue to do so… maybe. Of course thinking and planning is useful, but not when the future becomes larger than now.

I think we know that our moments pass quickly and fleetingly and there is no way to capture them. All life ever, ever asks of you is to be here now, intimately connected with you and your environment at any given time. It’s all happening right there.

And…for most of us living in the western world there is nothing to be afraid of. If there truly was, you would be running, acting, fighting or flighting and not reading this blog. You would be taking any control that you have. Most of what we worry about is not life-threatening just life-sucking. Of my many worries and the thousands of worries I have heard about, very few, have actually happened. How would your life change if you really believed that there is nothing to be afraid of? Life happens regardless. Try it on. Rise above the cloud of worry and let life get on with itself. Most of what we worry about are simply either tasks that need attention, or things we have no control over which is a waste of precious time and energy. Get on with being here and letting go of not being there. Today. Let me know how it goes…

Have a great week and if you are in Western Canada enjoy the summer weather!

The Great Contraction

You might say… why am I talking about contraction when I teach all about expansion? The simple answer is: you can’t have one without the other, and both are equally important.  Like a jellyfish, you can’t know expansion without contraction. This is life itself, the pulsating throb of the heart
